Oscars 2017 – My Review

Published February 26, 2017 by lorimuma

Thank you to everyone who enjoyed my Grammy live blog from a few weeks ago, so now this is the big one. The 2017 Academy Awards. So this will be a long one. I got my rest and now I’m ready. Here. We. Go.
8pm
I am watching the final 30 min of the red carpet pre-show. Its been a long journey. The CTV Etalk red carpet was a complete disaster as I thought it would be. The ABC red carpet was pretty PG, nothing to interesting. In fact it felt like 2 hours. Everyone is great, everyone is gorgeous, everyone has a chance of winning…..blah blah,

8:30
It starts with Justin Timberlake with Can’t Stop The Feeling and it was  fun even if the song is shit. I especially loved the “I don’t know who you are” look that Ryan Gosling gave JT
Jimmy Kimmel comes out and right away throws shade right away at Mel Gibson.
He is actually pretty good, the Meryl Streep bit was very funny so far so good.

8:49
The first award is given to Best Supporting Actor Mahershala Ali. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I am 1 for 1 on my Oscar pool, so that is a win for me.

8:57
Its time for the make up award. and winner is… Suicide Squad?? wtf and now we have academy award winner Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for Costume Design. What is happening I have now dropped down to 1 out 3 in my pool. This is stressing me out big time.

9:08
They bring out the real Catherine Johnson, from Hidden Figures. What a nice surprise.
Now Its Documentary Feature time lets hope the documentary about an unknown guy named OJ Simpson wins…and it does and I am now back to 2 out of 4 in my pool.

9:15
The song from Moana is one, its pretty enough, but I could do without the Lin Manuel Miranda intro. I find him a little much, a little too happy and life is great so I have to talk extreamly fast. the poor girl is hit in the head with a flag but continues like a Disney pro

9:26
We make it the sound categories
Arrival beats La La Land in the Sound Editing category. I am losing my Oscar Pool big time.
But it at least its a Canadian team
Now Hacksaw Ridge wins best Sound Mixing, this is becoming a La La Land shut out and my Oscar Pool is a disaster

9:40,
We are not even half way done yet, but it is time for Supporting Actress, I see the guy who robbed Stallone last year is still wearing that ridiculous hat. And the winner is Viola Davis, ok now I am back on track with my picks.

9:55

Nobody in that audience looked impressed when told “average tourists” will be making an appearance
on stage with them. Especially Mel Gibson.

9:58

Surprise the movie The Salesman wins best foreign film and is not allowed in the country. (really not surprised at all)

10:00

Its time for Sting to sing. This could make me fall asleep.

10:11

Thanks goodness Zootopia wins!! I can take that one.

10:20

Jimmy Kimmel brings a bus of tourist from the Hollywood bus tour into the audience and it was pretty funny. Denzel looks about as interested in performing that “wedding” as I would. Interesting Mel Gibson was nowhere to be found, probably for the best.

10:32

The Jungle Books win best visual effects, even better I got that one right on my Oscar Pool

10:35

Back To The Future finally getting the respect it deserves 30 years later and all to present the best editing award. The winner is Hacksaw Ridge. What the fuck???? If someone said Hacksaw Ridge would be the top movie winner so far I would have said you are a fool. Wow

10:43

Its Doc Short subject… who cares, I am getting destroyed in my pool.

11:15 (yes 11:15)

I started paying attention to the show again. Samuel Jackson was to present Music Score, and I have to say he looked pissed this was the award he got to present. Of course the winner was La La Land, makes sense for a musical to win best musical score .

Now Best Song -City of Stars for La La Land ok lets keep this show going

11:20

Jennifer Aniston is introduced to do the In Memorial finally.

Its nice, but at this point I am so tired I can’t even remember it.

11:30

With 6 awards left I am not sure what time this will end. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck present the original and adapted screenplays. It goes the worst movie I saw Manchester By The Sea and one I haven’t seen yet, Moonlight. Either way I picked them in my pool.

11:41

Halle Berry and her hair present Best Director. La La Land, now I am back at my pool. Plus I have to say I loved this movie.

11:52

Ugh, have ever mentioned that like  Zoolander 2 I thought Manchester by the sea was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen,so great the actor wins the award and Denzel looked PISSED, like 100% roll your eyes pissed when Casey said how much he liked his work. And it was beautiful to see. God I hated that movie.

11:54

I swear if this French woman wins I will lose it.Oh thank god it was Emma Stone for La La Land. By the way Emma Stones lipstick in on point. I must find out the colour* now

12:00

We now have hit midnight and with one award left its the Best Picture.

And its – LA LA LAND!

and it took 10 minutes to announce that…………….

and it was the wrong movie, actually Moonlight won. I may have to blog that in a separate post. I am way to tired to think anymore about it.

Until next Oscars

12:51

*Wait I just learned that Emma Stone is wearing Mona by Nars lipstick so now I can go to bed and will continue this later tonight.

The 2017 Grammys -My Review

Published February 12, 2017 by lorimuma

I admit I have been late in publishing anything in 2017. I have let my self down so tonight I am going to try something different, I am going to try and live blog the 2017 Grammys. All of them, the whole 3 hour plus award show.

So here goes…

8:00
Adele opens the show with Hello. She looks and sounds fantastic (the dress meh)
Not only is it one of the best performances of the night, but one of the best songs of 2016. I expect her to win big tonight.

8:07
The host James Corden opens the show with a dance number where he falls down stairs and wearing pink socks. Get it, its a joke. Now he raps, maybe he was better on the Tonys. The audience seems as confused as I am right now.

8:10
J.LO!!!! Making a political statement and quotes Toni Morrison ( does anyone believe she has read her stuff) in a bridesmaids type dress, very powerful. She presents the 1st award. Best new artist to Chance the Rapper

8:14
Paris Jackson presents (???) and makes a pipeline statement. I have no idea why she is there, but she introduced The Weeknd. Good performance, but its early on. Odd that he  didn’t sing Starboy.

8:25
Its John Travolta with lots of “bling” or just odd necklaces and apparently vision problems, and for some reason is not introducing the Bee Gees tribute, but instead Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. Next please.

8:30
Nick Jonas presents pop duo or group. Drake and Rihanna were robbed of that award. In fact I was so irritated I have no idea who won, but they took there pants off for some reason. I also hear that Blue Ivy is dressed as Prince so that is something to look forward to.

8:39
Ed Sheean is performing. Its endless, it might as will be country

8:44
Its the best rock award, which I predict will go to David Bowie……..and I was right. I thought that the women presenting the award was going to say David Bowie couldn’t be here to night….and that would have been a moment.

8:55
Shut it Down – Its BEYONCE. and I have not idea what the fuck is going on.
Was it Lemonade Pt2, was it a hologram, was it a pre taped video, was it a spoken word piece. was she going to fall off that chair. Who the hell knows. All I know is that is was a bit much, and Im a Beyonce fan. She is taking the Queen Bey nickname a little to seriously.

9:11
Its a county award, so I have no interest.

Im still trying to figure out what the fuck Beyonce’s performance was about from 5 minutes ago.

9:14
Thank you James Corden for that Neil Diamond karaoke bit, we needed that after that Beyonce performance.
Now if we could get Faith Hill to look like she has an idea what is going on. Really even Neil Diamond looked like had not idea why he was at these awards.

9:18
The great Bruno Mars performs, but not my song 24K Magic. Damm Grammys. Still I understood it better than Beyonce.

9:26

A country band introduces Katy Perry.

She sang her new song Chained to the Rhythm. Now it was no Beyonce performance, mainly because I understood it.  She made her political statement at the end showing the constitution on the stage.

9:35

Best Urban Album and in a surprise to know one, Beyonce wins for Lemonade. Beyonce is too much even for me tonight, she has to read her speech from a gold greeting card like she knew she was going to win. I can’t. Who is trying to be Solange?

9:45

A performance I have no interest in, Alicia Keys who is still not wearing makeup (but I van see the contouring  from my kitchen ) and another women who I don’t know.

9:50

Now we get the George Michael tribute, and they bring out Adele. That performance left me with tears in my eyes. That is how a tribute is done. Her version of Fastlove needs to be on iTunes NOW, like right now.

10:05

Drake loses best rap album to Chance the Rapper. ok

10:07

LADY GAGA with Metallica, What. the. hell.  Sorry Laverne Cox it is actually the other way around. Metallica featuring Lady Gaga.  Never-mind the poor Metallica guy who’s mic was not working. Someone is going to get fired for that one, but at least the pyro was working. I am not even a fan of Metallica, but they deserved better.

10:24

The Bee Gees Tribute. In one word it was a tragedy, no pun intented. Also that Barry Gibb had to watch it was the real tragedy

They deserved better that a country band and Demi ( I want to pretend I’m Cher) Lovato. Please. I wish those mic’s went off. With all that talent, that is all they could get. Please. Next

10:35

Hold Up is the National Treasure, Celine Dion presented Song of the Year. (of course she mentioned Rene) and winner was Hello. Seeing Celine and Adele on stage was all kind of right. These two need to do something ASAP. and then to get cut off to go to Solange was so wrong.

10:51

Its the Prince tribute time and they bring out The Time, and of course show Beyonce and Jay Z enjoying it. (Ill take that any day over seeing Taylor trying to sing along) Then it was Bruno Mars doing Lets go Crazy. Lets just say the 2 tributes were by far the best performances.

11:08

Pentatonix performs ABC and I have absolutely no idea why. Complete time waste

11:09

Chance the Rapper performs, if I wasn’t so tired I would have paid more attention.

11:15

John Legend does the in memoriam, which seems late in the game for that. I don’t think these  awards will ever end. Like they still have 2 more awards.

11:34

Its almost the end and hopefully Faith Hill will figure out where she is.

Its time for record of the year – and its an Adele night, with Hello. Seems like the right choice.

Now Album of the Year – it goes to no surprise at all 25 Adele.  This show was exhausting and it ended with Adele praising Queen Bey. and it Over.

I have to be honest, I was falling in and out of sleep and switching between the housewives of Atlanta during this show, so I did miss parts of it

Until next February. I need some sleep
